On Tuesday our A Level students attended a career talk by Mr Daniel Hugelmann from Ocean Labs. The talk was organised as part of the activities to commemorate World Oceans day on 8th June.
Ocean Labs focuses on biotechnology, specifically on creating conservation technology. They develop, enhance, and even find ways to reuse ocean monitoring equipment. Mr Hugelman showed students a modular remote sensing buoy, which is configurable for different mission requirements. It can measure seawater and meteorological parameters, as well as wave activity. In addition, he explained how they use 3D printing to create and enhance monitoring equipment.
The students especially those following computer science were quite intrigued to see application of software engineering in practice for conservation.
We would like to thank Mr. Hugelmann for responding to our request to share his expertise to our students and look forward to welcoming him to engage with our S4s and S5s in the future! For more photos: https://www.ischool.sc/student-life/gallery/?swcfpc=1&gallery=ocean-labs
